Swift ERG Mode - ELI5

Can someone please ELI5 (Explain Like I am Five), what is ERG mode, and why do I want it/need it?

I am in the market for a new trainer this fall, and I will be going the direct drive route (more than likely the new Elite Suito as it is the cheapest one available, and comes with a cassette.)

I haven’t used it yet, but Essentially you set your gearing to front inner chainring and middle out back. Then during workout follow the cadence not the power zones and the trainer will take care of power for you. Supposedly works well on steady state intervals, 4x10, 3x15, 2x20. Sprint or short intervals not so much.

So the whole idea is that you don’t have to change gears while riding? I would rather have to change gears to keep that “road” feel.

100% agree with you on that @Barry_B
I dont get how erg mode would transfer to real life

Well, when you get some time to kick the tires on your fancy new trainer, you will have to turn on ERG mode to let us know how it goes!

Also, I expect a full review of said trainer! I will be upgrading for the fall indoor season.
